Not all training looks the same. Through distance learning, the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training allows law enforcement and telecommunications professionals to complete certain courses, in-service and recertification without ever setting foot on campus. The online, flexible format is consistently updated as legislation and law enforcement trends uncover training needs. Some areas covered include vehicle operations, telecommunications, Breath-test Operator Recertification and Mandatory Training. Courses range from two to eight hours. A blended-learning approach is also available through hybrid courses, with class completion divided between online and on-campus work. Basic training law enforcement and telecommunications academies also use the online portal for academic testing. Access to a computer and internet connection is needed for all distance learning courses.
PREREQUISITES FOR DISTANCE LEARNING:
Be hired by a law enforcement or dispatch agency in Kentucky prior to starting the course
Satisfy Police Officers Professional Standards (POPS) or Telecommunicator Professional Standards (TPS) requirements
Be registered for the course by hiring agency’s training officer
